Question:
The enhanced checkout and binder export Java applet in Vault does not initialize and no errors are presented when performing actions.
Please apply any of the steps below with caution and only at your own risk.
Solution:
Usually, this type of failure is caused by a local issue with the user’s installed java version or browser configuration and can be fixed relatively simply.
The first step should be to determine if the issue is related to the Vault applets or is a general Java problem. To check this simply open https://www.java.com/en/download/uninstalltool.jsp and follow the instructions. This tool will detect out-of-date versions of Java on your computer.
The following items can cause problems with Java or the Vault applets:
- Outdated Java version
- Invalid browser configuration
- Java cache issue
- Browser cache issue
First, please read the related up-to-date Vault help articles and if possible, update to the latest Java version:
Invalid browser configuration
Make sure the browser configuration allows java to run. To enable follow the instructions at java.com:
Java cache issue
Important note: Clearing Java cache removes all resources, applications, applets, trace and log files cached locally by Java.
Often clearing the java cache resolves the issues. This forces the browser to re-download the latest version of the Vault applets. To clear Java cache, follow the instructions at java.com:
It is recommended to restart the browser after clearing the java cache.
Browser cache issue
Important: Please note that deleting browser cookies removes locally stored settings for all websites like user login sessions.
It is also possible that a browser cookie is causing the trouble.
For example, if the applet initialization fails or is skipped by the user twice in a row, Vault prompts the user if the Enhanced Checkout app should be started in the future. If No is selected, this preference is going to be stored in the browser cookie and the applet does not start anymore.
Java.com also gives instructions to clear the java cache. When clearing browsing history it is enough to delete the cookies only:
