Marked_Spam_vod is the value that the status of a sent_email_vod__c record is sometimes updated to when the email is marked as spam by the recipient. If the email service provider returns a response that the email is marked as spam, a dropped response posts back to Veeva to indicate further messages to this recipient from the sending domain are to be dropped. This generates an Opt-Out Multichannel_Consent_vod record as well as update the status to Marked_spam_vod.
Status_vod__c not updating to Marked_Spam_vod happens because some email service providers do not return a response that the email is marked as spam. Email providers consider it a security risk to send a response to a possible spammer if the message is marked as spam. This is considered a security risk because a Marked as Spam notification notifies the spammer that the email address is a valid email address.
There is nothing that can be done to prevent this from happening. Some email service providers consider it a security risk to send back a bounce response notifying the sender that the email is Marked as Spam.
Below is a list of Email Providers that are known to not send a Marked as Spam Notification. This is a working list and is updated as more examples become known:
- Google Mail
- Yahoo Mail
* Please do not test Approved Email by marking an email as spam. This lowers the email rating and could cause future approved emails to not be delivered.
