Question:
What is the difference between a Placeholder and an Unclassified Document in Vault PromoMats and Medical?
Answer:
A Placeholder is a document that does not have a source file attached to it and must be classified at the time of creation. Using Placeholders allows for the document number to be generated and the document fields to be selected before the source file is available. They can also be added to binders to indicate where future documents will be placed.
An Unclassified Document is a document with a source file, but no Document Type. By skipping the steps to classify the document and populate document fields, you can upload source files and create documents more quickly. Unclassified Documents appear in the Document Owner's Document Inbox until they are classified.
