Question:
Why is Vault File Manager (VFM) not automatically logging a user out after 8 hours of inactivity?
Answer:
- The user is not using the correct version of Vault File Manager. This feature is only available on version 21.20.1.0 or later.
- There is 8 hours of inactivity, which can be verified using the Vault File Manager (VFM) logs. If the user does not open VFM from the tray or click any action within VFM, this counts as VFM Inactivity. After 8 hours of inactivity, the desktop client remains open but the authenticated session within VFM to Vault is no longer authenticated. If the user attempts to perform an action within Vault File Manager, it requires authentication. The user is prompted to log in.
VFM activities that require authentication:
-
- Refresh
- Check-In
- Undo Checkout
- Cancel check-out/in
- Skip check-out/in
- Restart download
- Switching vaults
- Go To Vault button
VFM activities that do not require authentication:
-
- Opening VFM
-
Opening a checked out/downloaded file
- Open file location
- Open file with...
- Remove file
- Saving log files
- Accessing event history
- Accessing the About dialog
- Accessing Help
- Give feedback
- Switching vaults
