Question:
What is the difference between default internal access and default external access in Salesforce sharing settings and which sharing option Is relevant?
Answer:
Using these Sharing Options in an appropriate way results in unexpected record visibility. For this reason, it is relevant to understand the differences between these two options, as there is a possibility to confuse both sharing options.
Example:
In the event, Public Read/Write is set for the Default External Access column for the Call object instead of the Default Internal Access where it is set to Private. It may be perceived that there is Private visibility on the Call object. But in fact, there is Public/Read-Write.
Review the Salesforce Documentation: When to Use an Internal or External License.
Currently, the Default Internal Access option is relevant in most Veeva Customer Salesforce organizations. This involves the Salesforce Licence, Salesforce Platform licenses as examples. The Sharing button does not check for or does not differentiate between these Sharing options.
