Question:
How does a Protected PDF Rendition work in Vault?
Answer:
PDF Viewable renditions are unprotected by default. Admin users can configurate Rendition Settings in their Vault to render password-protected PDF documents.
Since rendition protection is applied on download, the enabled PDF protection applies to all documents in the Vault and those to be created. Admin users can alternately configure Rendition Profiles to apply protected rendition generation to specific documents and unprotected renditions are generated for other documents.
Limitations:
- Vault does not apply password protection to PDF viewable renditions when the documents' source file is a PDF with protection already applied. Users can still download viewable renditions of documents whose PDF source file are already protected. The downloaded viewable rendition does not include any protection from Vault.
- Vault only applies password protection to viewable renditions of CrossLink documents upon download. It does not apply these security settings to the original document in the source Vault.
- Vault does not apply password protection to PDF/A compliant renditions since they are already protected.
