Making reference linking more efficient
AnsweredThere are a couple of things that make reference linking rather inefficient and frustrating in an otherwise very clever system.
Suggestion 1: Prevent reference window from automatically closing after creating a new anchor
- The issue: When creating a link in a document to a reference in which I need to create a new anchor. The process is OK, but the window forcibly closes after the anchor is created. This means if I need to create several new anchors, I have to keep re-opening the reference and navigating to the correct page which is time consuming, especially in large documents.
Suggestion 2: Enable duplication of reference links within documents
- The issue: Often the same links need to be reused within a document, e.g. for a conclusions slide or if the same diagram is repeated. At the moment, this requires entirely redoing the process of the creating the links, which is not only time consuming but an opportunity to introduce errors
Suggestion 3: Enable import of selected links between documents
- The issue: Slides and content are often reused and adapted between documents. At the moment, I believe only all links can be imported from a document. Currently, all links have to be recreated from scratch (with the same issues as in suggestion 2)
Suggestion 4: When creating new reference links, prioritize and highlight previously-used references for this document in the search results list
- The issue: Currently when opening the reference link window, the results show recently used references for the whole account, not just that document. Having a list of the recent references for the document would negate many instances of needing to search. In addition, although this *should not* be the case, in reality there are often several duplicates of the same reference. When searching, it would be helpful for the results to indicate references that have already been used in the document (and/or recently by the user), so that a mix of different versions are not used.

Hi rachel.hassan, thank you for your suggestions. Would love to chat with you for about 30min and go over them. I would also like to go over some thoughts I have about these topics. Feel free to reach out (carlos.martelo@veeva.com).
I agree that letting you create and re-use anchors and links faster would be a great addition to the product.
