Use the document ID/Asset ID as attribute

Within Vault every asset has an Document ID/Asset ID which gets assigned per default and can be seen within the URL e.g. https://..../ui/#doc_info/14350/0/3 .

We would need to make this id visible as an attribute on the right side under Information.

This is important especially as the interfaces are using this ID and this would make it easier to check if the right document was copied or moved.

    Hello Michael,

Document ID (as per the URL) is available as a column in "grid view" in your library, or any other document tab (external ID is also available). However, Document ID cannot today be shown in doc info. Would the grid view and reports suffice?

    Hi Adam,

thank you for the quick answer. It is a start but in a long term we would need it also under doc info. Is their any specific reason why this is not possible?

    Kind regards,

    Michael

    Hey Michael,

Typically the document id is used only as an internal identifier, but we understand your use case and that it would be useful from an integration perspective. I have logged it as an enhancement request for future consideration. Thank you!

    Hello,

As previously mentioned, it does not show in the doc info page today. We have logged the enhancement request for future consideration.

You can get it from the URL, however. When viewing a doc, look for the number here:

    .com/ui/#doc_info/{docid}/

    Hi Adam,

So doc_id in the url is something different than document number? We have seen many cases in our vault that number is identical as doc id in URL(apart from leading zeros).

Tha helps us to refer to documents from other systems. And potentially in case of some integrations in future.

Why are they same sometimes completely different and sometimes same? Is there a way to ensure that Document Number would be same as doc_id. See example

    QV_002501 #doc_info/2501/2/0
    QV_002514 #doc_info/2514/6/0
    Thanks, Radoslaw

    Hello Radoslaw,

"So doc_id in the url is something different than document number?"
Yes, doc id and document number are two, entirely independent properties.

"That helps us to refer to documents from other systems. And potentially in case of some integrations in future."
Good! And in the near future (maybe 20R1) we are looking to implement 2 new doc fields that help you identify a document and/or document version globally, across any vault (unique ids that include the vault id).

"Is there a way to ensure that Document Number would be same as doc_id"
No there is not a way to sync those two concepts
