Veeva's Response to Salesforce's "Turn on Lightning Experience Critical Update Coming in 2019" Announcement

UPDATE (October 7, 2019)

Salesforce has announced that they will delay the auto-activation of this critical update.  Salesforce will now activate this critical update within 72 hours of January 7, 2020.  Please see their release notes here for more information: https://releasenotes.docs.salesforce.com/en-us/winter20/release-notes/rn_cruc_lex_turned_on.htm

UPDATE (September 4, 2019)

  • As mentioned in the original post below, this critical update should only impact standard profiles, such as System Administrator, because the "Lightning User Experience" permission on the profile will be auto-enabled for them.  However, all standard profiles will have the "Switch to Salesforce Classic" option which will allow users to go back to the Classic Experience. Additionally, by default, Salesforce periodically switches standard profiles back to the Lightning Experience to encourage the use of the Lightning Experience.  Customers have the option to disable this automatic switching as detailed in the Salesforce Knowledge Article here. Until the Veeva CRM 'Lightning Ready' upgrade (currently in sandbox early adopter) has been applied to the org, we advise standard profile users to use the "Switch to Salesforce Classic" option to perform their Veeva CRM tasks.

  • As mentioned in the original post below, this critical update should not impact Veeva CRM end users because they are usually on custom profiles.  End users on a custom profile would only be affected by this critical update if an admin had already enabled the "Lightning User Experience" permission for them via their custom profile or permission set.  This is not auto-enabled by Salesforce.

  • For customers who want to begin their overall Salesforce Lightning Readiness assessment, we recently opened a sandbox early adopter program for our Veeva CRM ‘Lightning Ready’ upgrade which provides compatibility for our out-of-the-box functionality with both the Classic and Lightning Experiences.  Customers can request the Veeva CRM 'Lightning Ready' Upgrade tab in their sandbox org by submitting a support ticket. Details of the Veeva CRM ‘Lightning Ready’ upgrade can be found in our online help. Additionally, customers can contact their Veeva account executive if interested in a Veeva Lightning Assessment.

Veeva has heard from customers that Salesforce’s Lightning Experience Critical Update announcement yesterday makes it appear as though every user will be impacted by this update. Veeva wants to clarify that only users who already have the Lightning Experience enabled for them will be directly impacted. Please note that Veeva CRM is delivered with Veeva custom profiles, however, standard profiles such as System Administrator already have the Lightning Experience User permission enabled.

Salesforce will be turning on the Lightning Experience on a rolling basis starting in Winter '20 in all orgs.  Turning on the Lightning Experience in your org will not impact your users unless the individual user has the Lightning Experience User permission enabled via profile or permission set.

We are working hard to make Veeva CRM Lightning Ready for our customers.  We will have more details in early 2019.
