search options for accounts by city and state

This just came in as an inquiry. Is there anything in the pipeline over the next few releases to address search engine filters when looking up accounts in irep. See below...

Hi Jim,

Was wondering if in iRep, there can be an feature added into the search box that allows to search by city, state, zip code. As of right now if I put in UT for example, it only show me anything with ut in the name. If I put in Utah, it only show names of offices that have Utah in the name.

I agree, I've gotten this request too. I thought at the Summit they said it will be coming out in V16 (September)...

Our users really need this feature as well. As a workaround our developers created a hidden field on the account that concatenates Address Line 1, city, state, and zip for the account. This field is searchable on the account, and when we return a search query we display the addresses related list below the accounts.

I agree. We have received numerous inquiries from the field regarding the ability to search accounts by address, city, state, and zip.

All, We have a feature in the works for V17 (coming out in Winter 2013) that expands the search capabilities in the weekly call scheduler in iRep. It will support user-defined filters on fields that are defined through a custom setting. With this feature users can create ad-hoc filters on account, TSF or address fields when they are scheduling calls. In addition, users will have additional filtering capabilities on cycle plans based on the configuration of the cycle plan objects. Leveraging the same filtering capabilities on the My Accounts list is planned for a future release. Thanks, Ted

I know our users would find this feature much more useful on the My Accounts list than in the call scheduler or cycle plans. Why are these features being delayed for My Accounts?

I agree. Our users are definitely looking for that functionality on My Accounts.

The reason we chose to attack the scheduler first is because: 1. The most common use case for filtering accounts in the manner we are building is at the time of scheduling calls. 2. This capability already exists on VMobile tablet and online, so it's being built to achieve parity across platforms. Our release cycles are a short four months long, thus we need to make difficult decisions on where to focus our efforts. We felt that while valuable, the same filtering capability in the My Accounts list is slightly less compelling than in the scheduler. Therefore, we plan to deliver an advanced My Accounts filtering and sorting capability in a future release cycle. Regards, Ted

Ted, Thanks for taking the time to fully reply to this thread - really appreciate it. Is there any chance this feature could be implemented in both My Accounts and Weekly Call Scheduler? The reason I ask is the user interface control for entering the search criteria is the same on My Accounts and Weekly Call Scheduler (a single text box) . It almost seems like you could utilize the same search method for both UI's and kill two birds with one stone. Just a thought. Thanks for listening! Best, Rick

Ted, Thanks again for looping us in and providing us some better detail to what's coming our way. Looking forward to the feature. Best, Rick

Rick - I understand your perspective regarding the simplicity of the single search box, but the method we are using for the expanded filtering in the scheduler uses a dedicated UI in order to select the field, operator and search value for each set of criteria. We debated putting the advanced filter behavior behind the search box, but we felt it may lead to confusion since the user wouldn't get an immediate indication of which attribute matched what they typed (think of typing in "Washington", "Clinton" or "Franklin"). With that said, we have broader enhancements to iRep planned that will address filtering in My Accounts in addition to a host of other usability improvements. Stay tuned!
