Question:
What can cause multiple click activities to be recorded for a single click to an Approved Email?
Answer:
Multiple IP connections can end up creating multiple Activity Records. If an email client or browser is loading a link multiple times, or if the IP traffic when clicking the link is being refreshed/reconnected somehow, multiple activity records can be created in this manner. This can be caused by an email recipient's VPN or network environment.
There is no method to exclude email activity that comes from different IP addresses. All click IP connections are considered distinct and are counted. These events and extra 'duplicate' click events are not excluded from Veeva Email Activity Tracking.
Multiple clicked events can occur due to the recipient's mail server running a spam filter or anti-virus scan after receiving the email. Admins can identify these automated activities based on the time stamp. Multiple open and click activities occurring in quick succession after a delivered event is indicative of automated activity.
Admins can also activate the bot_vod__c field on the Email_Activity_vod__c object to sync Mailgun detections of bot events. More information can be found in the article Detecting Automated Email Interactions.
